Key takeaways
- •We chose on-demand Translate | not auto-translate on every message, so staff and parents control when conversion helps.
- •100+ languages from the full ISO list, with 20 popular choices listed first for UAE and international nurseries.
- •Translation is included for normal daycare use; processing runs server-side with no API keys in the browser.
The problem we kept hearing
When we rolled out DaycareMate with centres like BloomWave Learning and Daycare, parent communication worked, but multilingual families still asked teachers to repeat updates at pickup. Staff copied messages into browser translators. That broke audit trails and wasted minutes teachers do not have between transitions.
We did not want to bolt on a generic chatbot. We wanted translation inside the surfaces families already use: messages, broadcasts, and the activity feed.
On-demand, not auto-translate everything
Auto-translating every message without a human tap can misread tone and create compliance headaches. We chose on-demand Translate: the reader taps when conversion helps, and the original text stays intact for disputes and inspections.
Parents and staff save a preferred translation language on their profile. After the first translate, repeat reads are one tap. Cached translations avoid repeat API cost for the same content.
Why 100+ languages with a popular tier
We ship the full ISO 639-1 language list (100+ languages) instead of a tiny hand-picked set or vague “150+ languages” marketing. In the app, 20 popular languages for UAE and international nurseries appear first — Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, German, Spanish, and more — and a searchable picker finds the rest.
Parents and staff save a preferred language on their profile. After the first translate, repeat reads are one tap.
Privacy and server-side processing
When someone taps Translate, message text is processed server-side through our AI translation service (Google Gemini). API keys never ship to the browser. Each centre still runs on a dedicated DaycareMate deployment with private data isolation, translation sits on top of that model, not instead of it.
We also separated this from our optional AI enquiry assistant: translation is included for subscribers; website chat for lead capture remains an add-on with human-in-the-loop conversion.
Included for normal daycare use
Translation is included at no extra cost for typical centre volume. We raised monthly allowances so operators do not think about per-message fees during normal nursery communication. That matches how we want centres to behave: translate freely when it helps a family understand a nap update or a fee reminder.
